The Tosno Museum of Local History and Tradition occupies the two-story house of the Smolins family of typical for the outskirts design. The house collection is deposited here since 1998.
Visitors can explore the history of the local area and learn its nature and geology.
The first mention of the town of Tosno dates back to the 15th century. The rapid growth of the town, though, began in the 18th century with the construction of the road connecting St.Petersburg and Moscow and establishment of coach services and stations. In the 19th century the railroad passing by stimulated further development of the town. These two periods as well as later history are depicted in the museum display.
The exhibit also describes the history of the Voskresensky (Resurrection) Monastery that was located in the area.
An interesting geological display shows different geological beds, local clays and fossils found in the neighbourhood.
A special exhibit tells about the life of astronomer Boris Numerov.
Concerts of chamber music are arranged in the Fireplace hall of the museum.
