Magadanskaya Oblast
Magadanskaya Oblast is situated in the northeast of Russia. It is washed by Arctic and Pacific oceans. The main rivers are the Kolyma and Anadyr.
The climate is distinctly continental, severe. The average temperature of January varies from -19 to -38 degrees centigrade, the average temperature of July is +3 - +16 degrees. Precipitations are 300-700 mm a year. Permafrost occurs everywhere.
The area is 461,4 thousand sq. km (2,70 % of the total area of the Russian Federation). The oblast consists of 8 administrative districts and the cities of Magadan and Susuman. The population of Magadan is 145,1, of Susuman - 12,3 thousand people. The oblast was formed on December 3, 1953. Magadan is the regional centre. It was founded in 1939. The distance to Moscow is 7110 km.
Magadanskaya Oblast is the richest region in natural resources. Here are the deposits of gold, tungsten, silver, tin, uranium, iron. Magadanskaya Oblast is the largest agate province. The shelf is extremely rich in oil and gas (one billion tons).
Almost the whole region lies within the Polar Circle. Being isolated from the "continent" the region is linked with it by means of the air and sea transport. The only permanent route Kolymskaya goes through Susuman to Yakutsk. The distance between Magadan and the nearest railway station (Khabarovsk) is 1,8 thousand km.
Magadan is the only nonfreezing port in the north of the Far East. For this reason it is called the northeast gate of Russia. The direct aircraft service with Ancoridge, the capital of Alaska, was renewed recently.
Magadanskaya Oblast is one of the unique places in Russia according to the natural characteristics convenient for development of tourism, realization of ecological tours and trips close to untouched nature.
Primary task here is construction of tourist bases for hunting of the elk, bear, ram, duck, goose, wood-grouse and for fishing.
Local landscape and abundance of natural objects provide favorable preconditions for organization of various types of pastime and rest. It may be rafting, fishing, ecological, adventure (water, automobile, hitch-hiking, ski) tourism.
In the territory of Magadanskaya Oblast gold mining is highly developed. That makes possible to organize such nonconventional forms of tourism as the industrial trips over industrial objects, mines and factories. This kind of tourism is already popular in Finland, Germany, Ireland and Ural. |
